Synopsis
Itto, a young woman from a modest rural background, is slowly adapting to the Moroccan privileged codes of her husband’s family. But when supernatural events put the country in a state of emergency, Itto finds herself separated from her husband and new family. Alone, pregnant and looking for her way back, she finds emancipation.
The MPC Paris teams created 88 VFX shots for Animalia.
Animalia is directed by the French-Moroccan Sofia Alaoui. This is her first feature film. Alaoui has been highly acclaimed for her short film Qu’importe si les bêtes meurent, winner of the César for best short film in 2021 and the Grand Prize at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, among others. Animalia will make its world premiere in the international competition at the Sundance Film Festival.
